Supporting Scott’s C2C Charity Cycle Challenge
At Kinspeed, we’re incredibly proud to support our colleague Scott as he takes on an extraordinary challenge for an equally extraordinary cause.
In September 2024, Scott’s 11-year-old nephew, Frazer, was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL). Frazer had none of the regular symptoms of ALL, however, leading up to his diagnosis, he had started struggling to walk and dealing with agonising pains on a daily basis. Once transferred to Sheffield Children’s Hospital and following numerous tests, they discovered he had fractured vertebrae, left hip and femur. With no obvious reason for these injuries, further testing confirmed his bones had weakened due to the leukaemia, and after a big hip operation, they started chemotherapy immediately to treat his Leukaemia.
Given the added complication of the bone fractures, this caused Frazer prolonged hospital stays while he battled through his mobility issues on top of the chemotherapy destroying his immune system to fight off leukaemia. Although they are only 5 months into this journey, Frazer has had to endure further complications such as infections, stays on intensive care and a blood clot on the brain.
Throughout all of this, the treatment they have received has been second to none, and there does appear to be light at the end of the tunnel. Frazer is on the road to recovery, hoping one day he can return to playing Rugby, which he has loved playing since age 7.
Scott, along with his cousin and friend Ray, is taking on the challenge of cycling the C2C route (St Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay) from the 25th of July 2025. They aim to raise £9000 and beyond, if possible, to benefit three fantastic charities that have supported Frazer and his family through this devastating diagnosis.
The three charities are:
- Sheffield Children’s Hospital – Ward 6 (Oncology) – The staff on this ward treat children with childhood cancers daily. They are always friendly, caring, compassionate, helpful, and supportive, trying to make even the worst days seem happy through play and general kindness. (Charity No: 505002)
- PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours) – Sheffield – This charity has been extremely supportive during prolonged hospital periods. They are a rock for families, helping them deal with day-to-day life with this diagnosis and providing funding for family days out. (Charity No: 508412)
- Young Lives vs Cancer – This charity, particularly Pat, who is based in Sheffield Children’s Hospital, has been incredibly supportive, offering guidance and support while families come to terms with the diagnosis. They help with forms, benefit-related matters, blue badges and beyond, making dealing with this situation much easier. (Charity No: 1107328)
The work that all three charities do is extraordinary, and people cannot appreciate their impact until they find themselves in this situation. Scott wants to raise as much money as possible for these amazing charities to give something back for the care they have given to his family.
We encourage everyone to support Scott’s incredible initiative. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference to families facing childhood cancer. Please click here to donate.
