The Barnsley and Rotherham chamber Christmas dinner was held at Ardsley House Hotel Barnsley today and was attended by businesses from throughout South Yorkshire including Kinspeed. After a few speeches from the chamber president and chief executive it was down to eating and being merry. The food was excellent with plenty on the plate and I think Ardsley House should be congratulated on the spread they produced. My first Christmas dinner this season and a contender for best one already.
After dinner we were entertained by staff and students from Barnsley academy playing past and present musical hits. During the entertainment raffle tickets were sold and a magnificent £266 was raised. At one point the raffle tickets ran out and a visit to Arkwrights store on Doncaster Road was in order for more tickets.
The serious business of the raffle then started. Highlander business solutions donated a Kindle for the first auction and this raised a healthy £65. The next lot was the star of the show, a signed Sheffield United shirt, and brisk bidding rapidly took the price to £110 won by Ian Wragg who was determined to win the shirt and especially to donate to Sheffield Childrens hospital who 18 years ago operated on his daughter as a baby and saved her life. Dr Jenny Walker you will always hold a special place in our hearts. By the way the Sheffield Wednesday shirt raised £90.
Over £500 for the Sheffield Childrens hospital was an excellent result, well done everyone.
