The long wait for Sheffield Hallam’s former students was finally over last week as the looming graduation ceremonies began. At Kinspeed, two of our employees were preparing themselves for the nerve wrecking experience of being on stage and having to appear on camera in front of their peers.
Kinspeed’s recently hired .Net Developer Jacob Hallsworth was the first out of the two to graduate. Jacob graduated with the faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences to celebrate his achievements within his Software Engineering Degree. In contrast, Kinspeed’s Marketing Assistant, Abbi Timson, graduated with the Faculty of Development and Society to celebrate her 2:1 in Creative Writing.
With instructions to arrive and head to the gowning section two hours before the ceremony, there was plenty of time to take some photos to mark the occasion. There were the obligatory cheesy smiles pictures. After all the different type of poses were done, every graduate made their way to their seats.
When all the courses had been seated alphabetically, the ceremony began with a touching opening speech that expressed Sheffield Hallam’s pride to all the graduates in the room. After a round of applause, the first course made its way to the stage.
For Abbi, this meant she was one of the first to grace the stage and shake hands with Dr Robert Winston. She managed not to trip up on stage, but did struggle to get down the stairs afterwards!
The whole ‘hand-shaking’ process went on for an hour and half until the final speech was made to help inspire the graduates to go out into the working world with the desire to achieve the best that they can in the field that they choose.
